Court Reporting in the 21st Century

By Marsha J. Naegeli, President/CEO
Naegeli Reporting Corporation

Yes, we still record every word spoken at a deposition or hearing; however, that is considered “Court Reporting 101”. What an exciting time we live in! Technology is coming at us from every angle; for the successful reporters and reporting agencies, this is viewed only as an opportunity. Providing the voice file with every deposition, the synchronized transcript with the video, providing a witness picture on the title page - - these are the exciting technological opportunities for every reporter. Court reporting as we know it is changing very rapidly. We all remember when the most exciting thing on the market was the condensed transcript or word indexing – those days are long gone! Yes, it takes more effort and more money, but the payoff is worth it. The client may be paying a 5% to 10% increase in cost and, believe it or not, receiving a 60% to 70% greater benefit on the management of that trial. Remember: Our clients want results and we, as court reporters, are the best able to provide them with every edge possible to achieve those results.
